well the psp's fine for watching movies. Nice big screen, a bit reflective if the sun's up though, and there's not too many films on UMD disks so you'll have to put them on memory cards. The web browser is slow, and hardly ever renders pages correctly. It does let you have 3 tabs open, but don't expect to load websites more intensive than google or it will complain about not having enough memory. In terms of IM, it does support it if you go on ebuddy. Typing is very, very slow.

If all you care about is internet I would go with a Nokia N800, N810, or Asus A626 or better than those (but also more expensive) an Archos 605. They are all a little bit more expensive than a psp but as far as internet and practical functionality, definately where you should be looking. HP and Dell have similar PDAs but much more expensive... but if you don't care about games, PDA is definately a better choice than PSP.

I hear V 2.00 allowed the browser and v2.71 allows flash (acrobat V6) and wmv players but that still wont let you play youtube videos which is in V8 flash. Not sure though because I dont have a psp myself. I'm getting one for xmas from my parents just for the internet.
